Recent announcements have confirmed that the FSRA exemption which applied to accountants providing SMSF advice will conclude 30 June 2016, if the past is anything to go by, accountants would be best suited to make the transition early, get the relevant processes in place and ensure that they are not spending 2015/16 rushing through a licence application.
The limited licence will allow an accountant to be able to continue to offer advice about a SMSF, whether it be the initial establishment or the ongoing obligations such as pension, contribution or structure advice. Not having the relevant licence will mean that this avenue of your business will no longer exist. The original exemptions from the FSRA implementation have run their course and the Regulator has flagged that they want them to come to an end.
